CGI production volume up 42% year-on-year
SinterCast AB reported its compacted graphite iron process control technology is overseeing record levels of production for the second quarter of 2011, with year-on-year output totals up 42% for the quarter. Stockholm-based SinterCast is the developer of a process control technology for compacted graphite iron production. While announcing new series production programs at two automotive foundries in South Korea (Daedong and Daeshin), SinterCast said the rate of production for its licensees has reached a record rate of 67,500 metric tons/year (or 1.35 million “engine equivalents”.) It added that a new installation yet to be identified is likely to push the total to 85,000 metric tons/year (or 1.7 million engine equivalents.) Moreover, the developer said it is on target to match its outlook for five new installations in 2011, thanks to advanced-stage discussions with foundries in Asia and the Western Hemisphere. It said the volume potential for current SinterCast series production programs and those programs in development are on target to increase the output to 222,500 metric tons/year (4.45 million engine equivalents), consistent with the company’s five-year plan. Earlier this year, SinterCast introduced several updates to its process control package, including an extension of the feed-forward measure-and-correct process control, and improvements in process data collection. The improvements have been incorporated as standard features in the third-generation of SinterCast’s process control platform, System 3000.
