Alupress AG, an aluminum diecaster with operations in Italy and German plans to install melting and casting capacity in Laurens County, SC, to support a high-volume machining operation it purchased there recently. Details of the new operation are few: county executives stated in a release that the company would invest $19.9 million and install a 30,000-sq.ft. operation, opening in 2014.

“The new plant will give us close proximity to our customers,” Alupress AG CFO Wolfgang Knollseisen stated.

Local officials stated the new plant would result in 57 new jobs for the region.

Alupress has two diecasting plants, in Germany and Italy, with diecasting, machining, finishing, and quality control systems. Its products are supplied to automotive customers, builders of other vehicles and recreational equipment, and hydraulics manufacturers.

The South Carolina business is called Alupress Koerber LLC, following the diecaster’s recent purchase of Koerber, a machining plant that processes aluminum castings, forgings, and extrusions.

“We are extremely pleased to see our existing industry grow,” Laurens County Councilman Jim Coleman stated in a release. “Alupress is another example of industry realizing success in a rural county.” The county’s Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits to support the expansion project.
