Foundry holding company MetalTek International is “joining forces” with a company that supplies a series of specialty materials and products for nuclear power companies. Mackson Incorporated, Rock Hill, SC, produces ASME-certified cast, machined and fabricated components to the commercial and military nuclear markets. Its products include nuclear-certified fasteners, raw materials, structural steel, and various other products, as well as sourcing, supply-chain management, and “product upgrade” services for nuclear power installations.
The structure of the transaction and its value were not released.
“We intend to continue the Mackson tradition of doing whatever it takes to serve nuclear market customers,” stated MetalTek president and CEO Robert Smickley. “We believe we can increase the level of service by expanding the scope of supply and utilizing the existing MetalTek logistical network of plant sites around the U.S. and in Europe. We think we can help extend the reach of Mackson beyond its current geography, and help the power generation industry meet their demanding reliability standards through on-time delivery of critical service components.”
Smickley said MetalTek holds itself to the same high standards for product quality and customer service as Mackson. “With MetalTek’s broad alloy knowledge and technical expertise supported by more than 50 engineers and metallurgists, we now offer a range of products not available to the nuclear market from any other single source,” he said.
MetalTek’s operations include five U.S. foundries — Bearium Metals and Southern Centrifugal, both in Chattanooga, TN; Carondelet Corp., in Peveley, MO; Wisconsin Centrifugal, in Waukesha, WI; and Wisconsin Investcast, in Watertown, WI. MetalTek also owns Meighs Castings Ltd., a foundry in Stoke-on-Trent, England; and Advanced Energy Components, an extension of Wisconsin Centrifugal that manufactures high-integrity parts for energy and defense propulsion applications, like turbine engine, flight turbine, and nuclear power generation.
Earlier this month MetalTek completed its acquisition of Sandusky International, a centrifugal casting specialist that operates two foundries, one in Ohio and one in Scotland.
