Purchase Adds Capacity, Variety to Avalon Precision Casting

Investment caster completes acquisition of Precision Metalsmiths Inc. Four plants in Ohio, Wisconsin Ounces to 100 lb. Over 200 alloys

Avalon Precision Casting has purchased Precision Metalsmiths Inc., bringing together a specialty producer of precision castings up to 100 lb. (Avalon) with a producer of smaller investment castings. PMI’s products are parts that weigh “ounces” up to 20 lb. The buyer did not announce the value of its purchase.

Both companies have manufacturing operations in Cleveland and in Wisconsin (Jackson and Markesan.)

The combined company will consist of four operations, which the buyer noted feature advanced automation and robotics to produce castings in more than 200 ferrous and nonferrous alloys.

Between them, Avalon Precision and PMI hold certifications that include ISO 9001:2008, PED, NADCAP, and ITAR.

Avalon Precision Casting CEO and owner David Dolata said its acquisition forms a company able to supply casting buyers with a greater size range and additional capabilities.

"Together, Avalon and PMI represent a new era for investment casting companies greater than the sum of their parts," according to David Dolata, CEO and owner of PMI. "Creating more opportunities and expanding capabilities are key to delivering what current and prospective customers have been asking for: new ways for the investment casting process to solve their ever-more-demanding metal parts challenges.

Avalon is the product of a previous merger involving Avalon Castings, Cleveland, and Craft Cast Co, of Jackson, WI. It manufactures investment castings in carbon and specialty steels, aluminum, brass and bronze, and specialty alloys like Inconel, Hastelloy, Monel, and others. Its products are parts for pumps and valves, oil-and-gas fittings, food and dairy equipment components, military equipment, and general industrial parts.

Avalon also has dedicated in-house machining and tooling capability, and offers rapid prototyping service.

Precision Metalsmiths manufactures small, thin-walled investment castings in ferrous and nonferrous alloys, using both traditional shelling methods and a proprietary “solid mold process.” PMI is a preferred provider to aerospace customers and also produces general industrial parts where complex small parts with thin walls, fine detail and tight tolerances are required.

“The partnership between Precision Metalsmiths and Avalon demonstrates our commitment to building an industry-leading investment casting company capable of servicing a broad array of markets and adding increased value to our current and future customers from multiple facilities around the country,” according to Doug Ciabotti, CEO of Avalon, who will lead the combined business.
