Robot Designed for Tending Diecasting Machines

Nov. 14, 2011
Six-, five, and four-axis devices with load capacities up to 300 kg
The RH Series robots are fitted with arms in a horizontal arrangement, resulting in an optimal movement sequence for extraction, insertion, and spray tasks at the diecasting machine.

REIS ROBOTICS USA INC.’s RH series has been revised for use as a tending system for diecasting machines, including removal, insertion, and spraying functions. The series features two six-axis robot types with load capacities up to 130 kg (286.6 lb); and two four-axis robot types with load capacities up to 300 kg (661.4 lb.) The basic four-axis systems may be customized with a fifth casting axis, mainly for use as casting robots for gravity diecasting.

The six-axes horizontal articulated-arm robots of the RH series are notable for high load capacity and high positioning accuracy at high speeds. The horizontal arrangement of the arm results in an optimal movement sequence for extraction, insertion, and spray tasks at the diecasting machine. Installation possible in very confined space: For example, the RH 130 has a floor space of 1.43 m2 with a work envelope of 23.8 m2. This robot type offers numerous advantages, especially in narrow work envelopes with automation at diecasting machines due to the horizontal articulated arm kinematics. In addition, peripherals can be arranged compactly around the robot and require very little space. The robot is arranged laterally of the mold-parting plane, in general to the rear of the diecasting machine, to ensure that the mold has free accessibility and soiling of the unit is minimized.

The horizontal axes are equipped with an anti-collision protection so that damage to prevent damage to the robot during programming and operation (e.g., if the robot has a collision when setting down the part.) This function also insures against damage caused by sensor failure in the trim tools or processing stations.

The mechanics of the RH series were designed especially reliability and long service life in metalcasting operations. All bearings and mobile parts are separately sealed and encapsulated, and therefore suitable for the use in extreme conditions.

Reis Robotics develops robot technology and provides system integration with linear robots, gantries, horizontal articulated-arm robots and other special robots. Applications include robotics for welding, casting, handling, laser processing, and others. Visit www.reisroboticsusa.com .
