Japanese automaker Suzuki Motor Corp. has established a joint-venture aluminum foundry at Manesar, India. Suzuki Metal India is managed by Suzuki and its subsidiary, Maruti Udyog, which is India's largest car manufacturer. The new plant will produce various automotive castings, cylinder blocks and heads, and transmission cases for multi-valve engines. Suzuki provided the plant and equipment design, and trained many of the 120 workers, but machinery and other equipment was provided by Indian manufacturers.

The goal of the plant is to reduce Maruti Udyog's material costs. Trial production has begun, with locally sourced raw materials.
