Watts Water Technologies assembled a series of technologies and advanced equipment designs to develop its new foundry, to produce lead-free castings according to the the Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act, which takes effect in January 2014 and mandates that all products used to handle or process water that may be used for human consumption must be certifiably lead-free.
Design work for the new foundry began in mid 2011, and ground was broken in April 2012. The project was completed in 12 months, and the new, 30,000-sq.ft. foundry started melting and pouring in April 2013.
