HA International (HAI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Hüttenes-Albertus, serves the North American foundry industry as the largest supplier of products for core/mold production. Hüttenes-Albertus is highly integrated in the global foundry industry through a network of subsidiary and affiliated companies.
HAI offers the North American foundries the most comprehensive range of products supported in three market segments: Resin Systems for bonding sand; Resin Coated Sand (RCS) for the shell process; and Refractory Coatings.
Resin systems include: shell resins, ester cured phenolic coldbox and nobake resins, phenolic urethane coldbox and nobake resins, acid curing furan and phenolic resins, hot box resins, and inorganic binders.
RCS’s available from HAI include products for general purpose, aluminum, low nitrogen and specialty coated sands such as zircon. Refractory coatings include products for iron, steel, and lost foam applications, and foundry companion and auxiliary products such as adhesives and release agents. In 2010, HAI acquired Wedron Flux, a well-known product line that adds another facet to the company.
Operational Excellence and Capabilities
Operational excellence defines HAI’s performance standard. It represents our commitment to continuously improving everything we do. HAI has met rigorous quality standards required for ISO 9001:2008 certification at all of our manufacturing facilities: the resin production operation in Louisville, KY; the resin coated sand operation in Oregon, IL; the refractory coating operation in Toledo, OH.
Our main research & development facility is located with the global headquarters in Westmont, IL. The state-of-the-art laboratories include: facilities for conducting analytical chemistry evaluations, synthesizing resin polymers, and developing refractory coatings, all related to applications in the foundry field. Additional critical research and development is performed in Toledo, OH.
EcoMission is another HAI innovation, introducing environmental products that support sustainability and minimize foundry environmental impact. With this, comes our ongoing commitment to continually improving product performance and value.
To be recognized as an EcoMission classification, each of our products must meet at least three out of five environmental criteria. These criteria are: Utilizes Water or Renewable Components, Utilizes Recycled Components, Low Volatile Organic Compound (VOC), Low Hazardous Air Pollutant (HAP), and Low Odor.
HAI’s EcoMission portfolio encompasses all three products lines - resins, resin coated sand and refractory coatings - allowing customers to select from a wide variety of products to meet their environmental needs. Bioset, Biocure, Carbophen and ALpHASET are offered as environmentally friendly resin choices, while Custom Coat E-Series is for resin coated sand users. For refractory coatings, Techni Kote, Dura Kote and Mold Lite Plus are all available for foundries to benefit from environmentally. The latest EcoMission introduction is HA International’s Amine Recovery Program (HARP) that is focused on the reclamation of amine gas captured in scrubber solution during the coldbox process.
Our Research and Development commitment, along with our Manufacturing commitment to the foundry industry, will continue to emphasize constant improvement in the performance characteristics and productivity of our products.
