Monitors process variables, discards out-of-tolerance parts
Pretransa Die Casting Machines, a manufacturer of cold-chamber, high-pressure diecasting machines, introduced a Mobile Die Casting Process Control Unit that allows foundries to control the most important variables in the diecasting process, and helps to establish the automatic identification and discarding of parts that do not meet the defined tolerances.
The new unit monitors the most important diecasting process variables in real time and verifies that the previously defined tolerance ranges are being met. If a part fails to comply with one or more of the tolerance requirements, it is extracted from the process automatically by the machine tending robot, and discarded.
The Pretransa unit records information from each injection and generates various statistical analysis for later review. Such analysis and the source information are exportable in MS Excel format.
“High-pressure diecasting is a complex process affected by multiple variables,” explained Germán Lechuga, Pretransa sales and marketing manager for North America. “We wanted to help diecasters to eliminate the manual validation of their produced parts and increase the automation of their process.
He continued: “With the use of an extractor robot along with our Control Unit the production cycle is reduced and you get instant feedback of the diecasting process and possible incidents that might be occurring. In short, we reduce uncertainty and help improve the process.”
The Pretransa Die Casting Process Control Unit is transportable and adaptable to any diecasting machine of the market using a displacement transducer and a pressure probe. The unit is networkable, so a foundry operating several systems to monitor the operation of one or more diecasting machines can track process performance from a remote computer.
