Grede Foundries LLC awarded its Eagle Award to its Reedsburg, WI location, recognizing the foundry as its top plant in 2010, based on an evaluation of ten performance categories.
The Reedsburg plant produces ductile iron castings for the automotive industry and beat out the other 14 Grede locations across the U.S. Scores from the ten categories were added together to determine the winner. Grede-Reedsburg finished with top honors in two categories — lean management and cost control. The plant tallied a second-place finish in safety, one of the three top-three finishes in other categories.
Grede-Reedsburg has been running on one shift since 2009. With 600 current employees, it is the company's largest holding and one of the largest foundries in North America. It produces about 150,000 tons annually and boasts yearly sales of more than $185 million.
Dan Antonetti, general manager, told The Reedsburg Times-Press that he was extremely proud of his entire team and how they operated the plant over the past year. "We have been through some challenging time with a bankruptcy and a merger in 2010, but this team stuck together and came out on top. I am especially pleased with the fact that while we added many new employees this year, the team had it safest year on record."
