Milwaukee-based Wisconsin Die Casting halted operations without warning last week, according to the
Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, in apparent financial distress. Workers were given no advanced warning of the shutdown, the newspaper reports.
A regional president of the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America, which represents Wisconsin Die Casting workers, told the newspaper the company faced a financing problem. "There was some hang-up where the money wasn't there that they need to keep operating, and it happened all of a sudden," according to Carl Rosen. He indicated that efforts had been made to resolve the financial problem and resume operations.
Wisconsin Die Casting produces zinc and aluminum alloy diecastings for automotive customers. The same plant formerly operated as Badger Die Casting Corp.
