ASK Chemicals continued to fulfill its pledge to be the metalcasting industry’s “Foundry Experts” by presenting new technologies and research at CastExpo 2016, the largest North American exhibition for metalcasting operations and professionals. The four-day event took place in Minneapolis during mid-April.
Promoting a hopeful message with its motto “The Future of Casting”, ASK Chemicals displayed several new technologies involving its binder resins and feeding systems. These included:
• ECOCURE™ phenolic urethane cold box binder . This is the newest generation of urethane technology that focuses on providing foundries with environmental advantages, without sacrificing the speed and strength associated with the ISOCURE™ family of binders.
• ECOCURE ™ inorganic binder resin. This is the most advanced inorganic binder system available. INOTEC™ offers significant technological advantages for foundries looking to reduce their environmental footprint while maintaining exceptional performance.
• EXACTCAST™ AIR patented cold box technology. These custom designed riser sleeves feature a unique, scalloped design that offers reduced material and, thus, cost-saving potential.
As industry leaders in research and development, ASK Chemicals also contributed three technical papers at the CastExpo Congress, expanding the scope of understanding for metalcasting professionals there:
• Data on the Performance Effect of Blow Tube Design, presented by Andrew Pike.
• Veining Test Castings and Effects of Process Variables, presented by Dr. Paula Vivas.
• Benefits of the Amine Recovery Process for Sustainable Foundries, by Dr. Sritama Kar.

In addition to its commercial ventures, ASK Chemicals will be projecting its vision for “The Future of Casting” to metalcasting students with a program introducing the coremaking simulation software “Arena-flow®” at the Technological Institute of Saltillo. TIS, in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico, offers graduate and post-graduate degrees in several engineering disciplines, including industrial, material, mechanical, and computer engineering, and its undergraduate level includes a study program certified by the Foundry Educational Foundation (FEF).
A new crop of metalcasting leaders is emerging and ASK Chemicals is eager to contribute to their training and knowledge. The FEF is particularly critical to the development of this next generation of foundry experts, which is why ASK Chemicals has sought to align with this organization to offer training seminars that include the latest advances in foundry consumables and software services.
Arena-flow is a revolutionary software package for coremaking and tooling design. It is based on the science of two-phase computational fluid dynamics, (CPFD®) enabling technology that makes the modeling of core blowing possible. Arena-flow is the only foundry engineering software package that uses the revolutionary CPFD technology to model sand core filling and curing. CPFD simulates not only the granular sand motion and air flow in the tooling, but also the significant interaction between the two.
ASK Chemicals plans to conduct several live seminars featuring Arena-flow software June 6-10, at Technological Institute of Saltillo.
