Expansion Complete at Allied Mineral Products

July 13, 2009
Refractories manufacturer increasing precast selection
Refractories producer Allied Mineral Products Inc. reports it completed an expansion of its manufacturing space for precast products earlier this year. The 92,000 ft 2 addition at Allied’s Columbus headquarters brings its total manufacturing and warehouse space to nearly 500,000 ft 2. Most of the new space will be dedicated to Allied’s American Precast Refractories Division, and the remainder will be warehouse space for Allied’s global operations. American Precast Refractories will gain more space for manufacturing specialized and enhanced shapes. It includes seven new furnaces that will improve flexibility in firing schedules, and a new 20-ton crane was installed to bring lifting capacity to 35 tons. The new APR space includes a specialty shapes room for controlled castings, and a material hot room to optimize material casting properties. Also, there is an area to accommodate high-volume production of small shapes and a grinding room to meet precise tolerances. Loading and shipping facilities were improved, too. Allied Mineral Products explains that the additional warehouse space will improve manufacturing flexibility and plant organization, and enhance its ability to serve its customers.
