A Brazilian metalcaster, Maringá Soldas S. A. in Curitiba, is the latest licensee for the SinterCast technology for compacted graphite ironmaking. Stockholm-based SinterCast will install its System 4000 technology and provide engineering support to the specialty manufacturer of aftermarket automotive cylinder heads.

The 55-year-old foundry claims to be Latin America’s largest manufacturer of cylinder heads and components for diesel engines, including Caterpillar, Cummins, Maxion/Perkins, Mercedes-Benz, MWM, Scania, and Volvo models.

SinterCast is the developer and licensor of the world’s most widely used technology for producing compacted graphite iron, or CGI. The lightweight ferrous material is in demand by automotive and industrial engine manufacturers for its high tensile strength, stiffness, and fatigue strength that is greater than gray iron or aluminum.

“Compacted graphite iron has been the fastest growing technology in the foundry industry over the past twenty years,” commented Sandro José Assolari, president of Maringá Soldas. “This cumulative growth has resulted in more than 10 million CGI engines in the field, and an intense demand for CGI in the aftermarket sector.

“As the original force behind the global CGI movement, and the world leader for CGI production, properties and application, we have taken the strategic decision to align ourselves with SinterCast. This alignment ensures that our aftermarket customers will benefit from the same process control technology and metallurgical quality as the original OEM components.”

The installation will be commissioned during Q4 2024, according to SinterCast.

“After more than 20 years of series production, it is rewarding to see our technology adopted also for the aftermarket sector,” offered SinterCast president and CEO Dr. Steve Dawson.
